I was just in a town, one of the first I've managed to find for a long time in adventure mode, and for some reason all of the buildings were empty save their occupants.  This was an above-ground city, so I went to a merchant, tried to bring up the trade menu (in retrospect this was a bad idea) and crashed the game.  What could've caused this to happen?

You might want to try to recreat it. And maybe make a save of it so that Toady can take a look at it.

And this is a thought, could it have anything to do with the occupying races site preferences and start locations?

The fact that they like mountain halls too makes me wonder if that's somehow affected their ability to have a properly functioning location.

Wait, so this was modded?  It could be all sorts of things depending on that.

The crash itself has been fixed for next time (along with others that came from having no trade items on either side of the screen there).
