I've made small fortresses once or twice specifically with the intention of providing an adventurer with insanely overpowered starting equipment.

It just occurred to me, though, that the reverse might also be possible.

Is it feasible to use an adventurer to gather a collection of difficult-to-obtain, interesting, or otherwise useful/noteworthy items and drop them off in a predetermined location to supplement a future game of Fortress mode? Has anyone ever tried this?

Interesting question.
The best way to test this, I suppose, is to build a fortress first, then take your adventurer there and make him drop stuff instead of looting.
Then reclaim and see if the stuff is added. Easiest way I think. Or you would probably have trouble finding your buried treasure on the embark map.

This can be done.

  • Start a fort where you are later going to have your fort(bring only non perishable items). Make sure you can locate it on the world map.
  • Abandon the fort.
  • Create your adventurer and have them acquire items.
  • Travel to the fortress site and dump all of the items.
  • Repeat 3 and 4 as necessary.
  • Retire the adventurer.
  • Reclaim the fort, your goodies should now be present somewhere on the map.

This certainly worked back in the olden days of the 2D version as I would on occasion use it to amass a stockpile of adamantine and artifacts.

This is the way I transported adamantine to the desert fortress. However it was a bit hard to find all there pieces laying around the map.

Brilliant idea. Would moving your old artifacts to the the new fortress give you free reign over them? Would their value be added to yours?

Reclaimed items don't add to the fortress value though
