would fair as well as a human that drinks sugarwater instead of food

I think a better example would be a Human who drinks C+ instead of Food

Since Dwarves obviously have some sort of biological need for alcohol

It's why they live so long. Pickles their innards.

On a side note: How long do dwarves live?

I checked the Wiki... it didn't include it anywhere obvious...

It seems to me that dwarves eat [very rarely] to get protien, minerals and nutrients and drink [often] to get carbohydrates and water.

What if we drink C++? [/kidding]

Eh, food in itself needs to be edited. I just don't feel right with my people eating mainly mushroom mush. Thats why I always have the grain food option.

Small plots should not provide so much food.

I would bet money Andrew has edited things retroactively, except I can't prove anything because it was edited retroactively.

Toady is already looking into having it so eating a single source of food produces negative effects.

Yeah, someone asked the amount of booze in a barrel, turns out it would have to be over a 200 gallons (American), or a volume of 28 Cubic Feet- about 75% the volume of a whole square. A full barrel of plump helmets is about the same amount! No wonder it can feed 5 dwarves for a month! I don't know how much space it takes to grow mushrooms, but we can guess that they grow to be a half foot tall, so if they where all laid out end to end, they would fill a flat area that's 56 foot square. going back to the numbers (2.5x2.5 foot) we have from before, that comes up to at least 23 tiles per "5 plump helmets". I'll admit that makes more sense than a giant mountain of mushrooms sprouting out of the ground only 2 1/2 feet across.

Regardless of whatever else is done, dogs should be capable of "cleaning" vomit, blood, entrails, etc.  muahahaha

I guess Toady could also split up diet further into

Consistant and Variety

Consistant are for creatures, such as dogs, who get ill/sad due to diet changes

Variety are for creatures, such as dwarves and humans, who get ill/sad if they have a single or predictable diet.
