The Museum, Goldgifted (Succcession)
« on: April 16, 2008, 11:49:00 am »

See the original thread: http://www.bay12games.com/cgi-local/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=11&t=002395

DFMA: http://mkv25.net/dfma/map-2488-goldgifted

The Year 1 save file: http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=113

The next player, for Year 2, is Dwarf Fanatic.

We struck adamantine!  I sure as heck wasn't expecting that.  The funny thing is, I didn't even use Regional Prospector to pick the site, just the normal embark screen.  I had no idea that we even had adamantine, much less that I would accidentally run into it smack dab below the main staircase.  I don't have a previous save, and anyway having unexpected potential disasters is part of the succession game, right?

There's still a good long while before the dwarf caravan arrives that will report the existence of adamantine, so there's time to prepare - either prepare to deal with it, or prepare to destroy the caravan in some way and keep the Museum quiet for a while.

My joke on the DFMA comments to the contrary, I didn't mine any adamantine out before saving the file.  The Hidden Fun Stuff is still safely Hidden.  I did save scum afterwards out of curiosity so I could take a peek, and I can tell you that it's !!Hidden Fun Stuff!! - I couldn't even wall it up fast enough to save the fortress, and I tried twice.

Why would you make this? It's totally worthless, I can't edit the first post.

"Worthless"?  A single tear, shed by my broken heart.  *snivel*

Just add your own reply to this thread, and you can edit that.  I'd rather not add more posts to the one on the Gameplay Discussion forum, is all.  I'm sure everyone can handle scrolling down a little to see the latest news.

To answer Dwarf Fanatic's questions from the other thread:

1. You can "take" whatever character you want as new Curator, or change the King's mind and reappoint the current one.  After I embarked, I noticed that the dwarf I chose to be the broker/leader dwarf had a line in his bio saying that he didn't care about art.  I thought it was pretty funny that he was in charge of the Museum but didn't give a fig about its contents, so I wrote the succession log from his point of view.  Then the surprise adamantine strike kind of pulled everything together.

2.  To take screenshots, just pause the game and hit Print Screen on your keyboard, then open up Paint and paste it in.  Upload to www.tinypic.com,  and after you hit the button it gives you a little segment of code that can be pasted into a message board post.  Remember to hit "preview reply" before you add the post to make sure you did it right.

Thasero, are you the organizer of this here succession game or not?  If not, then you should not be doing organizer things, like starting official threads, without talking to Squeegy first.  It's mightily confusing to the rest of us!

Squeegy, I'll be happy to take the next open year.

Grr. Why didn't you post this where I would actually read this before making another. =P Sigh, so much confusion...
