Map swap
« on: May 18, 2008, 12:55:00 pm »

Most DF players want as many resources and terrain features as possible in a small area. Such maps can be found on DF wiki. But some are looking for a challenge, unspoiled maps (there is adamantine there, but find it yourself), a combination of circumstances (all civs available except goblins) or specific terrain (beach without aquifer). Maybe they just have a very slow computer.

That's why in this thread we can swap maps and seeds that are tailored for specific requests and would take a long time generating to find. Help others and post your own interesting requests.

Here goes a request - a site without outside contact (in civilization list only dwarves with notrade flag). Any terrain, any resources, any size world. I'm quite sure I have seen sites like this in recent versions, but haven't found one after 30+ worlds. Needed for an isolated seven dwarf breeding project and a small fortress without the annoyances of traders and immigrants. Will try to help others.

For your request have you tried looking at islands or mountain areas with a habitable spot inside the range, these usually don't have any contact. Or just turn off invaders in the init. Set the pop cap to 0 and don't build a trade depot.

Yes, I have tried looking at islands, mountain valleys everywhere, glaciers and combinations of them (island in lake in mountains, glacier in mountains). They all have full contact with dwarves (unlike in some previous versions). Notrade flags themselves have become extremely rare.

Init/no depo is possible, but unfortunately I am too picky and it seems not very elegant. Consider telepathic breeding by animals, traders dying on map and leaving their inventories, special cases of immigration (king after adamantine).  The experiment has to be totally isolated in terms of resources.

Wall, seeing as this is here:

A smallish place perfect for a steel industry. Just magma, ore and flux. Can't be on a standard size world. Thats all I ask.

I would bet money Andrew has edited things retroactively, except I can't prove anything because it was edited retroactively.

Here you go

seed:
Created in DF v0.27.176.38c.

[WORLD_GEN]
[TITLE:SMALLER]
[SEED:1681913925]
[DIM:33:33]

or download at megaupload. 3x3 (or smaller) area, full of dolomite, lots of trees, all three types of iron ore (not very much, but enough, magnetite quite deep), smaller map.

Wow.

I'm sure that solves quite a few requests right there.

Now all we will get will be strange geology requests.
