Rockeaters
« on: December 18, 2007, 08:10:00 am »

Say I wanted to have dwarves enjoy different kinds of stone/ore instead of normal foodstuffs. Is there a way to make only one civ consider these food, so I don't end up with humans, elves, and goblins eating rocks too?

(Gems would be a delicacy! Adamantine and some others too difficult to digest. No kitchen stuff - they would make tastier meals at the forge/jewelers. Also, they still drink water and alcohol. I wonder if this would cause stones to rot? That would be an irritating side effect.)

You could probably make a reaction at the melter to input any rock and output "[rocktype] biscuits".

When the basic idea consists of dwarves eating raw stone, adding a "stone biscuit" reaction is kind of pointless.

Ah well - guess I'll wait until this is possible.

This would cause them to eat stones, they would just have to cut it into biscuits at the melter, it's not possible to get them to eat raw stones but having them cut them into smaller pieces is only reasonable.

You can't have dwarves eating granite boulders because the types of items eat are hard coded and does not include boulders but you can have them eating -granite biscuits-. I think.

Because I'm looking to have them eat RAW stone and your 'solution' doesn't allow for this. Seriously, drop it.

Yeah, raw stones won't work.  I do like the idea of stone biscuits, though.  Maybe I'll give it a shot.

I can't even imagine a dwarf eating a solid chunk of rock.
That's the size of him.
With his BARE HANDS.

Hmm...I've never been a big fan of CCGs - I mean, I did and still do collect Pokemon cards, but I never got heavily into the battling and trading thing.

By definition that makes you a fan since you still buy them.

Never eat something bigger than your own head.

Nice to see traditional dwarven bread is evolving.

I got the idea from a ruby-eating titan in another game and thinking that maybe there is another explanation for dwarves being heavy miners...

---------------

It'd be interesting anyways to add racial tags for some food(/items?). For example, those mushrooms dwarves find delicious might be inedible or poisonous to humans.

In D&D, there is a prestige class that is Dwarven Geomancer (I think) and to get initiated, a dwarf character must eat 200g worth of gems.

I like the idea of rock biscuits, that'd be a great way to get rid of stone and not have to farm. Cheating, but at this point, it just sounds so expedient, yes? Please post it if you figure out the appropriate .raw alteration.
