heal.exe doesn't work for me

I downloaded heal.exe started up DF, put the v thing on a dwarf with a neck injury, and started up heal.exe. A black window flashed for half a second and nothing opened and my dwarf wasn't healed. What do I do? Sorry if this should have gone in the help forum.

I think you need to open a command prompt to use the utilites i.e.
start>run>type "cmd" hit return

and when this opens you type the path to the .exe
e.g. C:\dwarf fortress\heal.exe

if it comes up with a directory already entered put "cd" in front of the path followed by a space
e.g. cd C:\dwarf fortress\heal.exe

sorry if you already know this stuff.

What you will probably find is that the Heal.exe is out of date for the DF version. You may want to check the Wiki utilities pages and make sure that you have the most recent version and that the letter after .33 is the same for both your DF and the utility.

I have the latest version of DF, the utilities page doesnt mention what version heal works for.

Ah, I thought it would be next to each utitlity, like Heal.Exe (version x) Reveal.exe (version x)

Damn, I have version D. I guess I could download c, copy the saves, heal, recopy to d...Whatever, the cripples can wait.
