Forging Creatures
« on: May 30, 2008, 03:19:00 pm »

I am working on making a technology advanced race of gnomes. I am going to make a mechanical metal spider creature for them to use as pets. So I have a few creature related questions.

1. Is it possible to make it where my spiders do not breed or have babies?

2. Would it be possible to make these creatures in a forge or any type of workshop?

3. Finally is it possible to have regents for them? Such as requiring bronze for a bronze mechanical spider and steel for a steel mechanical spider?

Funny. I was just about to ask the same thing. Also, wouldn't wether they would be on your side or not be a factor? I am working on a race that needs to make more of itself via forging more of their kind.

I thought that if you created something that it would be on your side, unless this is false.

It is impossible to create standard creatures from the smelter.  You can create vermin, but that's just because they're treated more like moving items than actual creatures.

It is possible to have a creature that does not breed.  You will be able to purchase more of them from the caravans.  Mules are already in the game, and they are treated in just such a way.

In order to prevent them from having children, just remove the [CHILD:1] tag.

That's a shame you can't forge creatures. Oh well, seems my spiders will have to just be acquired though trade. Thanks for the replies.

Waiiiit a second...didn't someone awhile back figure out a way to make creatures in the smelter?  Try searching for "smelting" or "creatures" or some such.  I'm sure SOMETHING would turn up...

Again, they acted like vermin, as Kagus explained.

Still, there are useful vermin, such as cave spiders.

Would it be possible to make a playable race that doesn't breed, but migrants can be "bought" at the caravan?
