Missing liaison
« on: May 29, 2008, 07:31:00 pm »

I was wondering if anyone knew what controls the appearance of liaisons. I played a fortress for 12 years and never received a liaison with a custom entity. I could always make them send a merchant prince but that's not really what I want to do.

Do they have a [DIPLOMAT] token?

They do have the diplomat token, though I thought that token allowed for the diplomat (the one that comes once you have a baron, and doesn't really do anything)

One thing to keep in mind is that, e.g. in the case of dwarves, there is one liaison. For the entire world. If he dies, no fortresses in that world will ever get a liaison.

Not for the entire world but for the entire civilization.

I didn't know that, thanks. That could be the problem. The first fortress I tested I fell asleep while testing, waking to see "Your fortress has crumbled to it's end" message, it very well could be that a liaison died while I was snoring. The next fortress went on for over a decade, and never once did the liaison show up.

So nobles, taxcollecters, and hammerers get constantly replaced but not liasons?  Why?!

t''s so sad.  It''s as if De Beers as invaded Dwarf Fortress.  I nearly cried when I saw how valued and rare diamonds were in Dwarf Fortress.

Whoa - you managed to get a custom group to send traders of any sort?

Weird - I never could get that to happen when I attempted, even when I simply renamed 'elves' into 'customs'.  Is there some obvious sequence I'm missing? I gave them an active season of spring (And removed elves), diplomat, and diplomat bodyguards.  *Confused*
