I wasn't really serious about the image.

-Aside from being larger, they also curve more fluidly, have a greater variety, and as a result look more believable.

PS- Yes, it does look like a thong

The images (except for the large, blocky one, which later dev notes have claimed have been fixed anyway) are awesome.  Feature irritation will likely make them more awesome.  The smooth sinuous curves rock so much.

The only thing those images are missing is the mist at the bottom of the waterfall...

I never claimed to have fixed the blocky one.  Which dev notes are you referring to?  The 7/17 entry?  I think that's the one that gave rise to the pictures in the first place.

Also, falling liquids all have a chance of misting, so you can even create your own soothing falls.  I don't recall why that picture doesn't have mist.  I might have taken the screen shot from pause right at the beginning before it started up, because it won't pregenerate mist for the first frame.

Oh, meant water, not liquids.  You still only get lava mists from cave-ins, which aren't even in yet.

At any given time, a river section in the play area has a certain amount of water in it, but if the river has a source off the edge of the map (or the 'magical' sources in mountains for indoor rivers), it will refill squares downstream (starting at the edge first) over time.  There's a little balancing that needs to be done with the refill rate, but the problems right now are just some minor issues around waterfalls, where the water levels get low at the dropoff.  If you dig out a huge area around the river, it'll become shallower on the loaded section of the map, and you can also divert the river.  Once it becomes shallow enough, I guess with the new rewall stuff you could build a dam.  You can't drop floodgates down into deep water right now, but I know people want to do that.  Now, there's an issue here with the flow from the edge of the map in that it won't overflow passed a closed floodgate like it should.  I'm not sure what I'll get to when I address overflows (which is on the dev notes, but originally just for periodic indoor events we currently have), but it would be nice for things to behave reasonably.  It can be slow however, since the placement for water coming in from the edge would get slower and slower the more it deviates from the small original river track.

So, who's up for watching the History Channel and then reenacting the construction of the Hoover Dam?

Something about this and the comments of the small river looking like a thong just seems wrong somehow. Is there something you should tell us about the Hidden Fun Stuff, Toady?

And yeah, reconstruction of the Hoover Dam sounds like it'd be fun. I'm more excited about "accidentally" diverting a river into a nearby human town, though.

Awesome cant wait it. I get some ideas at dig3d video.
1. Why dont use archers and peasants shooting and throws stones on the bridge when attak come?
2. If you abandoned your fortres and find it whits your adventure right like in video, it is little stypid when your remember all traps and wher is all your weapons and so one. But if you put file wher is your abandoned fortres in internet, then others do same and dowload your file so they get your abandoned fortres and you got them so it is very fun when wander around some other player made fortres and try find valuables and try avoid traps.    :)

What about cave rivers? I mean when you dig down in mountain and up, will you evade the cave river? And can you shoot from upstairs windows to siegers? Would be awesome.

Will regions with very heavy volcanic activity have lava rivers instead of water rivers?
