Odd how "Experiment" in DF is often synonymous with "Raging inferno of death and dispair"

Agree with every word of it.  I wouldn't mind the achievements-unlock-bonuses (hell, I like stuff like that[/i]) if the damned achievements weren't so stupid.  I find the act of cheating your way to attaining idiotic goals to be wonderfully justified.  That's teamwork.

I actually saw some guy last night who managed to get the "First do no harm" achievement, and got one of the milestones because of it.  He acted as though he'd spent the last year or so trying to get that, and he got a full round of applause from both teams.

As an aside, I never even found that gnome to begin with.  Where was it?

I think it was under a set of shelves in the shack where you get Eli on the phone for the first time (first time in that episode, that is).

Eeeg.  So you're saying that in order to get that one achievement, I'd have to go from there all the way through to the end without cheating my way past the spots I already completed?  Damn.

Massive spoilers, but hilarious.

You can allow or stop your dwarves from eating these mushrooms, but it's entirely optional and doesn't turn Dwarf Fortress into Dwarf hookah-smoking pad.

I loved it, but I have this to say:

NO.  FRIGGIN.  WAY.

And he calls the grub achievement insane?  Hell, even I managed that one.

I joined a medic-farm a while ago to get a couple of the more ridiculous achievements, at least the ones that can be achieved in a place like that.

A pal of mine, who sees nothing wrong with the achievements, came onto Steam chat and inquired about my joining an achievement-farm server.  "Do you actually ever play medic?"

Yeah, I do play as a medic.  Quite a lot.  Which is why I only got the achievements I felt were the most absurd, and stopped healing people when I found out about the vastly-amped medic heal rates on the server.

Some of these things...  Are just wrong.  I'm not going to dedicate my life to playing TF2 just so I can find myself in the exact right time and exact right place to get some of these achievements.  I am going to hack and cheat my way to them, and enjoy every second of it, because I am fighting achievements that were created only to be abstract filler.  I don't need people acting pious about it.

And does anyone even know what that autopsy report achievement thing is?  Do you take the picture?  Do they?

You don't need to take a picture, and neither do they. You just need to be in the needlegun taunt animation (I have heard that the other two don't work, and happened to be in that one when I got the achievement) when the still shot zooms in on you from somebody else. And you have to be standing over their corpse.

In other words, you have to get the kill, not the assist kill, on someone, with the needlegun at so near to point blank range that you can taunt immediately afterwards on their body. And not get shot to death before their screen freezes, since that would cancel the taunt animation.

Needless (pun intended) to say, I got this on one of the aforementioned achievement servers. A lot of them, though, are ruined by one or two people who don't follow the rules, but instead just start killing people while everyone's standing around. They should realize that their stats will be far more inflated if they play the way they're supposed to--as part of getting people the revenge assist achievement, I now have a maximum point total of 89 for the Heavy class. (The way the server played it, one side massacred the other until they were all dominated by everybody, then the other side made a Heavy and all other Medics, who would take turns healing the Heavy as he mowed down wave after wave of Scouts until everyone had been avenged and re-dominated. Then repeat with the other side.)

I actually consider those inflated stats an annoyance, much like my thirty hours on Engineer from trying to get Sentry Gunner creates an artificially high goal for the other classes to reach. The second highest, Demoman, is only at 15 hours.

Of course, I console myself (again, pun intended) with the fact that there are people out there who have played nothing but TF2 since it came out, and probably have hundreds of hours on each class. Or thousands on just one. *shudder*
