A couple of questions about wrestling
« on: February 11, 2008, 04:27:00 am »

Can people still wrestle when the joint above the apropriate limb is broken? Also, how the hell do you grip with anything other than hands?     :p And how do you stop gripping things when attacking randomly?

And as a slightly unrelated matter, do wrestlers in Fortress mode simply break joints or actually punch stuff?

you can break some limbs with any part of your body (like hips... or strangle the throat), but there are some that you can only break with your hands (head, ankles).
for stop wrestling things in random attack, press A and attack (not wrestle). it will free all the grips and then he will punch-attack with weapon.

and for the dwarves... dont know. i think they wrestle and punch.

Breaking a joint above a certain body part is as effective as breaking the limb itself.  It will render it useless.

Try grabbing someone's throat with your hand.  Simple enough, eh?  Now go behind them and wrap your lower arm around their neck.  Also very simple, and quite effective.  However, the current wrestling system is a bit wacky, seeing as how you can hold one part of the body with your lower leg and another part on the opposite side with your lower leg.  I'm going to pretend that dwarves are either made out of elastic, or they're simply bending the creature to accomodate their desires.

As for turning off the random grabbing (You grab the ratman by the first toe, left foot with your right hand, thus wasting two turns!), simply press "c" or "C" (I forget), and select your combat preferences to either "strike" or "charge".  Hand-to-hand is grabbing.

Wrestling in fort mode includes both twisting and punching.

So if I had my elbow broken I would be able to use my upper arm but my lower arm and hand would be useless?

I think so.  Haven't tested it out though, so I'm not sure.

Wrestlers in Fortress Mode fight the same way unarmed NPCs do--randomly. They fight like you would, if you set your attack preference to "according to opponent" and simply attacked over and over.
