Weather movies
« on: August 25, 2007, 07:58:00 pm »

Hello !

A while ago, I have made 2 weather movies :
weather.zip

I really like these effects. And I would definitely be among those who think that adventure mode has a great potential ! Give Toady one year or two (if he does not get fed up with programming games... )

Edit : link didn't work. Trying with zip file

Wow.  The Blizzards look crazy.  Did you mod your game?  I've never seen the blizzard effects before and I've walked across several of my generated maps from top to bottom.

I didn't play close attention to weather in the game before, but in your weather.cmv recording, I see that the same tile on the overworld went from hot to warm to rain to snowing in the span of just a couple of days, multiple times!  That doesn't seem realistic at all except, perhaps, on a world like Mars that has a way off-balance axis.

No, I didn't mod anything. But I spent a bit of time close to a big lake or close to the sea. I have the feeling that there are more interesting weather events happening there. ( lots of fog actually)

I switched a lot on/off the display clouds function ('c')

I think I'm going to put these movies up on the DFMA (DF Map Archive). That way anyone who watches will be able to speed through them to see the weather in fast-motion. I'll post the link here when I'm done.

Alright here you go;

Weather
Weatherbis

I took some liberties by renaming them when I uploaded them. That was only for clarity, however.
