I just got some raw adamantine , and built some work orders to mint and smelt coins automatically ,dreaming to have a power overwhelming force.
At first this plan ran well , soon I got more than 40 ada bars. BUT after about one year ,I was astounded as my production line totally broke ,because there were not even a single ada bar left in my stock!I suspected that  I may just have traded those bars to caravan. Then I checked my stock carefully,  I found I still have about 40000 ada coins ,but neither in bins nor on the ground . Actually ,a kid kept all those coins ON HER RIGHT HAND,and she didn't HAUL them ,instead she EQUIPPED them as glove or mitten--of course those coins now belonded to her .I had to use DFhack cleanowned cmd to let other dwarfs dump those coins to garbage area and collected them again .
I'm playing the steam ver .50 ,and I think this might be a bug or something? I check wiki and some pages tell me that coin can be used as weapon to throw , but no one mentioned that coin can be worn as clothes. I look at the dwarf kid once again and find that she like "coins" , so maybe that's the reason ? But how could she wore so many coins (I can't image how can she grab them)? Is coin really a kind of equipment ?

In the current version, dwarves who have the Need to "acquire something" have a random chance to steal the items they haul and claim them as owned items, based on their preferences. Presumably, it's some sort of placeholder until the Dwarven Economy comes back, since otherwise that was the only scenario in which dwarves could acquire items other than clothes.

Given that coins made of non-currency metals are considered "commemorative" and thus buyable, that would explain at least part of what happened here.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

It happened in 47.05 too; I tried minting coins for the melt exploit, dwarves with coin preferences snatched them. Had to savescum and mint some worthless metal coins for them to snatch, then mint the adamantine and divine metal ones.

They didn't grab this many though. Only one stack each.

I have no idea where anything is. I have no idea what anything does. This is not merely a madhouse designed by a madman, but a madhouse designed by many madmen, each with an intense hatred for the previous madman's unique flavour of madness.

What I do is insta-forbid the full stacks, then unforbid them when caravans come and split the stacks, then wait while dwarves gather them. Some get snatched from the depot, but most end up in bins that eventually go to the melting section.
