"He'll be alright." you propose. "If not by his ownt merit, I was presented an offer of cooperation from the garrison."
"Were you now?" the Vagrant snaps her head. She had not seemed to have considered such a possibility.
"Indeed so. We can meet with an official to exchange some information- unrelated to the disease. I made a case we were unaware before our arrival... Nothing should happen to us."
"You did not... Bewitch them, did you?"
"Hah! No, I did not, and it's a good thing, too! That we certainly do not need right now, with all this talk of... Curses, and what have you. We'll get to prove ourselves yet..."
The stoat doesn't seem too assured, but certainly calmer. She rests against the wall, then prompts you to talk for a change.
"I presume they didn't let you near anyone sick after all, did they? Save those ill in the head..."
"No, not as such." you say, and it appears again you'll be both occupied for the duration of your wait, as her mouth starts to shift. "Their pity."
"I really don't understand it, see..." she simpers. "There wasn't this much trouble across the premises before... Or it wouldn't come your way, but now, since I got you to look after..."
"Is that what you think? Then I hope you trust us lot to navigate out of these plights. We will, as Sas would put it, we have lived through worse, as I know you have, and what is then this investigation compared?"
"I suppose so... Looking back, you're certainly more worthwhile, if nothing else..."
"And even if worse was to come, I know what out leader is capable of. And he won't flinch to exercise that power. Nor would any of us, but he is truly something else. Not to mention, he has a stake in your safety for sure."
The stoat takes a pause, to merely behold. She is still quick to speak, as right thereafter, you're hit with another question.
"Why'd you travel with him anyway? When you fear him..."
Understandably, you take time to answer as well.
"I gave a promise. My word to aid, and my kin keeps their vows. As I am to aid these soldiers, and as I am to aid you."
Despite all what you have said, you never see the lass convinced. But there's peace in your mind, at least regarding this...
And hither comes Flax by, not as does slumber but rather as doth thunder. It is not anger that made him enter so, although he looks upset, and of a burdened mind.
He lays his glowing eyes upon you, and reads the inquisitive face that has greeted him.
"They don't like me." he announces, as he walks to set himself beside you. "The sooner we hit the road the better."
"Well, about that..." you address him. "I might've negotiated us a safe stay, but... We'll need to indeed stay."
"Then you explain it please, because the interrogators did anything but a good job. What are the terms?"
"Some kind of an agent is to give this place a visit. They made it sound he'll be glad to hear from us, and that way we may help them."
"Sounds simple enough. When will this take place?"
"That is the part we don't know. They only mentioned he's on his way, he should arrive in a matter of days, but might be delayed."
As you have expected, the man is not thrilled to hear such news and suddenly, the ordeal sounds simple no more. With a furrowed brow and his sight held down he silently sorts his thoughts.
"And why should we bother exactly?" he then grunts. "If we got free from suspicion, I say let's run for the hills. There's a trip a'waiting, and the longer we linger the garisson may reassess their stance."
"The informant has been investigating beast men attacks. I might just find out why are we being pursued by my people."
The warrior's swirling features now set themselves straight, and he dwells on the statement.
"I see." he mouths, then twists the eyes all around. "Is this our boarding house then?"
"Perhaps? Though it was not proclaimed as such."
Flax scoffs, and starts to circle the space, inspecting the structure as he goes.
"Talk about organisation... But if it is empty, we should be able to win it with words... Given the room shortage with all the bedridden folk. What consumes my thought is rather, what do we do in the meantime."
