Making a "foraged only" plant
« on: July 01, 2024, 02:31:36 am »

Hi all! I'm returning from a massively long hiatus from Dwarf Fortress tomfoolery, and returning to modding as well, working on a new original mod.

Well, original is partially in quotes, as vast swathes of what I'm doing are simply remasters of content from my old mods from the past decade, for modern versions.

That's all besides the point of this post, either way, though. My point right now is, I'm making a handful of wild and cultivated mushroom varieties for this new mod, and I'm wondering if its possible to make a plant only appear in the wilderness. I'm adding morels, and while I'm not opposed to making them able to be cultivated (If anyone could cultivate such a stubborn mushroom, I imagine dwarves would), I want them to be a decently rare/valuable luxury mushroom, even if that provides very little in terms of mechanical benefit. Farming them would simply hit different.

I think I could just make them not have seeds, but i don't know for certain, hence asking.

I've just made plants that don't have seeds, but they might still show up in gardens in generated sites (somehow, maybe npcs exploit cuttings or transplantation). There's no tokens that really control that. You can make them rare by giving them a low FREQUENCY value, but when they do show up within a civs sphere of influence they might get used by that civ anyway.

Thank you, I dont mind if generated sites have them.

Also, thanks for being such a massive modding help all these years
