Using killed animals
« on: February 05, 2024, 11:08:19 pm »

Hi, when an animal is killed outside by dogs around my entrance, or anywhere, they just lay there and rot. How do I have them collected and butchered? The only way I've ever got them to butcher anything is marking a tame live animal for butchering.

The only way I thought of but I know Im missing something is maybe make a forbid all stockpile over the corpse, and maybe they'll haul it to corpse stockpile, but even then I've never seen them butcher anything from corpse stockpile either. Only live animals.

The butchers will only butcher corpses that are within about 15 tiles of the workshop and are fresh. And, dwarfs will not haul corpses from the surface to the stockpile unless you change the default setting in the Standing Orders, to Allow Dwarfs to collect Refuse from Outside.

Once you change the setting, they'll haul the corpses, but if the corpse is rotten, the butchers will wait until the meat rots away before separating the bone.

There is something to be said about, if the stakes are as high, maybe reconsider your certitudes. One has to be aggressively allistic to feel entitled to be able to trust. But it won't happen to me, my bit doesn't count etc etc... Just saying, after my recent experiences I couldn't trust the public if I wanted to. People got their risk assessment neurons rotten and replaced with game theory. Folks walk around like fat turkeys taunting the world to slaughter them.

I got them to haul and butcher fresh if I make a blank all disallowed stockpile over it. Was hoping there was something less convoluted, but not hauling every stupid thing on the above ground map..
