Haspen, you got the name wrong. This is supposed to be time Capsule 2023. The name corresponds to the year in which we bury it. We bury this on January 1st, 2023 so this is time capsule 2023. Check the dates of the previous capsules to see my point.

The real Time capsule 2022 is still buried and we're waiting for Toady to open it on January 1st.

1. War sucks. This year was worst than the previous one. Russia still has no hope of conquering us, but we're losing both morale and manpower. It's left me feeling disgusted with the moral weakness of western governments. Our grandfathers would not have tolerated such a limp-wristed response. This is why you never let dictators take the Sudetenland (ie. Crimea)

2. Yes, and your relationship with your mother is starting to deteriorate as well. You've softened a little on the kid though. As much as he also sucks, he's still got some innocence. You imagine that once all of this over, he'll be the only family you'll remain on speaking terms with.

3. No, you do not. Your mom seriously fucked you over by pressuring you to continue your part-time job over the summer (and do it full-time) rather than you doing the necessary job-search stuff like you planned. You made an effort to continue your job-search over the fall semester, but that's when you developed a clear picture of how much work you need to do to get an internship. You were correct when you believed you needed an entire 4-month University summer for this. To practice LeetCode, build your Github portfolio with little projects, as well as the tedious back-and-forth of sending applications and getting rejected. Any talk of doing this over school, or skipping steps is wishful thinking by people trying to justify not giving me the resources I need to pull this off. You don't know if you will ever forgive your mom for this. Especially when you kept harping on about how it important it was to have a break after doing summer school the year before. She just doesn't care.

4. That foreign girl is still around. I don't know if I've mentioned her before, but she is the most/only important social thing going on in my life at the moment. I had interactions with work colleagues (Since this was my first job, I never had colleagues before), but we have very contrasting personalities. We get along, but I can't ever see myself building a connection with them. You haven't seen them since you left that job though and probably never will.

That girl is very important to you though, and you hope the relationship doesn't fizzle out before you get a chance to see her again. You think it's a miracle that she's still messaging you. You have an idea for what she sees in you, but you don't know how it's enough to keep a long-distance relationship going for longer than a year. You can only pray for a chance to see her again

5. Hamilton is overrated. Good, but overrated. There is some neat choreography, but Les Miserables has the better story and the better songs. It doesn't help that you believe your theatre botched the performance, though you don't think watching it on broadway would have fully protected you from the disappointment. You were expecting another historical epic, but Hamilton simply isn't that, despite the impression the opening song may give you.

6. Bay12 Mafia is still alive and kicking. I don't think the transition to discord has hurt it. There's a big game going on right now. You still need to finish that archive though. Preferably before other archivers like Tolyck and Skynet decide to leave bay12 and take their wayback machine links with them.

7. The webnovel WORM is the big one for me. It's amazing how a story this good can be so unknown. It can go head-to-head with Game of Thrones and come out on top! It's a shame that super-heroes are dead now cause a Worm adaptation would have been huge a few years-ago when The Boys and Invincible were making it big. Even if such an adaptation would end up strictly worse than the original, it would still make waves if executed remotely competently.

There were some other stories, but they're a little spicy/risque this time. Never thought a book would ever make me contemplate killing myself, but I endured that mental challenge. Still, it's given me a better appreciation for content/trigger warnings. On a lighter note, you'd consider Deep Rock Galactic to be your GOTY.

8. You lasted for 3 months. Your were disappointed that you ended up breaking them, but that's life. This year's resolution is dead simple though.

Well, I don't think I was expecting most of this year at the start, so I will just write where I am now for you to compare.
Not sure about anything and didn't come out about nothing to the family, still live with parents.
I mainly have editing to do to the thesis probably, although there are some subjects that may arise, learn Spanish very slowly, almost finished with my diet.
Didn't go to the diagnosis yet, never good at knowing what to write, fairly early with that activist group.

Feel good to actually change in life, but the next year is way too much of a mess to try to do that

Well, 2022 was an adventure. If you recall, this was the year we finally got a job working with animals. Friends came and went. Our friendship with the bug girl blossoming was a particularly nice surprise. There were health scares, the Russian invasion of Ukraine, disappointments, huge wins, and Dwarf Fortress released on Steam. Christmas was one of the best we've ever had. A white Christmas and we got a lot of great gifts for a lot of people. I feel a mix of anticipation and trepidation about this coming year. Not even sure what to expect.

What was the biggest surprise this year?

We don't do much modding these days. It's sort of stopped being as fun with the combination of the Steam graphics making it hard to get back into for Dwarf Fortress, and feeling like we've already done everything we wanted to do with the hobby. We still know how to do it if we want though. Maybe we need a new hobby.
