Question about Wells.
« on: August 08, 2006, 07:01:00 pm »

Long time fan of all the Bay 12 work, just now got a forum name.  ;)

But, as the title suggests, I'm curious about wells. Or more exactly, why I can't build one. It keeps telling me that I need 'rock blocks' and a bucket. I've got several buckets and made a bunch of blocks with 'use rock' set in the mason's workshop. Why can't I put them together into a well?

Are there jobs to haul the buckets and blocks to storage piles?  That's one possibility I can think of.  Some of the playtest vets might have other ideas.

Use t to look at your building and check the blocks and bucket.  If they have a blue TSK next to them, it means they've been claimed for hauling and can't be used just now.  Just be patient and try again after it's moved.  The only possibility is that the dwarves have not actually build the blocks or buckets just yet (or they had to cancel it).

Yeah, looks like I was a little too quick on the draw for the little fellows.  ;)

I really need to work on my building skills. My outpost is a serious mess.

Dont worry about that much Frank.  Every time you reach a new tier of DF skills you will realize that there are better (different) organization methods to the fortress.

When you get to the river.. you will want to build farms... when you have lots of ore you will want to optimize your smelters...

Just keep at it, and soon you will have a very rewarding little fortress with a hundred dwarves running around doing your bidding! (except for the nobles?!?!#$#@$)
