Since Imperial Guard look so strong right now, here's the good old fall back. Plastic toy soldiers:

A couple of hundred Guardsman:

Or the "premium" option, if you don't want to mix soldier types. 6$ per guard squad is still pretty good 😊

All the mortar teams:

To help fill out your Lego teams/ special/ tank weapons:
(Do you know how many grenade launchers and plasma guns you can get in Guard now? For free? You'll need these)

Buy a few Leman Russi:

3 scout walkers:

In case you need more field guns:

The greatest non-lego Lego set ever for everything else:

So, say 3 sets of soldiers for "all the guard", 3 lemans, 3 scout walkers, 3 mortar teams, 6 Lego sets for all the special weapons, 2 fieldgun sets, 6 Lego sets for all the other vehicles, probably less than $250Aussie for an entire army. Ok, it's not a tournament army, but it is an army. You can stick the Rubric Marines from the above in as Voidsmen from the Allies/Agents list in too if you want, and even infiltrate them with a Rogue Trader. Buy a bloke on a horse at some point as well for Lord Solar 😎

For the purposes of this thread, I'm not sure if Lego is any cheaper than WH40k...
(It turns out offbrand Lego is. See below)

Anyway, here's my prospective 1000 Sons "all from one Leviathan box" list. I'll add points values when they come out, to see what it clocks in at:

1 Daemon Prince 210pts
  (From Terminator Captain)

Daemon Prince models are quite a bit larger in silhouette than terminator captains, mostly due to their wings. You might be able to hack up the Prime with Wings from leviathan to get those though.

Well, this one doesn't have wings (the profile and abilities are marginally better), so I was just thinking some horns would do it. Could always chuck the wings on him if you wanted to use him as a flyer though, just for another option for your army. It's nice when models are a bit dual-use.

Noticed this around a corner of the internet, for cheap armies when you can't afford the budget, why not setup your armies for the Epic 40k rules using as basis the pictures from the 40K module for vassal :

Lol, that's awesome. I've been checking on how hard it would be to tazo/ pog/ collector card something, for a boardgame I want to make. I'd probably do it animated with holographics though :)

Anyway, here's my 2,000pt "competitive list" for 1kSons. It's got most of the jank, but not that much dev-wounds, yet a reasonable alpha-strike. A bit of redundancy in cabal points as well, in case it's movement and endurance that will win you the battle. Should be able to take out 2-3 units on turn 1, even going second, and has enough units/ psykers/ OC for proper objective-play and magic shenanigans. And probably just enough melee to contest pretty well in that too.

From the above "Leviathan only" set, I'd just need to buy 11 Rubrics/ cheapest marines I can, and 1 Ahriman on disc. It's tempting to replace all the Spawn with a War Dog Stalker, but I don't have one, and free models are good models. They're "somewhat similar" in melee, but the spawn don't shoot (but don't die to anti-vehicle stuff either).

17 cabal points at full strength, and 1 free ritual from Ahriman, lets you double doombolt something and turn-off armour saves on something else for the alpha strike. And the Vortex Beasts, Forgefiend and teleporting Tzaangor do the rest. The marine firepower is really just for mopping up. 3 disc riders too, just in case it's a really weird mission set or something. But you can conceivably go Tactical random missions if you wanted to, for extra VP.

Tonnes of other stuff available with the above Leviathan models, or could have a 3000pt game if you wanted.
