Walking spreads spatter in Init files.
« on: April 13, 2013, 07:44:27 pm »

You know, after my 2 or so years of playing DF, I have never turned this on. I would now, but I want to know if the reason its off is because its bugged in anyway? Also, Does it make the game more 'FUN!!!' and what are the effects of turning it on?

Turning it on makes blood and other liquid contaminants spread slightly when something walks through them.
This was allways on before the option to turn it off existed, which was added because in older forts blood and other contaminants spread so much that the game would slow down.

I see, so that includes Forgotten Beast extract as well. Hmm, interesting. I might mess with it for a bit on a new fort, see how it handles.

Yah, it spreads forgotten beast extract too.  This lead to some people making foot baths in various parts of their fort to help stop the spread, because if you get one of those paralyzing death extracts and it's being tracked around the fort, it's bad news bears [/personalexperience]

I still don't think I'm crazy enough to play this game properly.

Better than the blood of the thing causing rotting. I lost a young-ish fort to a tantrum spiral, caused by rotting dogs wandering through the fort, spreading the rot to the dwarves and making everyone angry and depressed.

Elves do it in trees. Humans do it in wooden structures. Dwarves? Dwarves do it underground. With magma.

Yep - similar for me: lost an older fort due to an extract transmitted by bare skin - this was before children picked clothes for themselves, so entire families were bereft of kids because of the stuff on the floor. Some would say that's a good thing...

Well, I tested it our for a bit, needless to say, the walls were covered in dwarf/goblin blood in about every bit of the fort. I turned it off after about 3 years cause my frames went from my starting 150 to 60 after only one seige. That is kinda odd to say the least. I will turn it back on when I get to the caverns and meet a forgotten beast. Hopefully my frames won't die by that point.

Hm... Thousand of hours into my fort I noticed this option...
So, should it be on or off - what's the meta?
I've noticed that steam version has some difficulty sliders but I think that i've left it in the default positions...
