Allow modding of dipscripts
« on: March 16, 2023, 07:31:18 am »

There are a few old text files in the game, like embark text, dialogue when interacting with diplomats, etc. which used to be found in the dipscript files. It was once possible to edit these using a particular tool, but this can no longer be done in the Steam version.

Which is unfortunate, because it means that, for instance, the game will always refer to the player race as "dwarves" and tree-loving races will always refer to themselves as "elves" and so on, which is kind of annoying and immersion-breaking for mods that change races.

It would be nice to turn these into into proper moddable files.

Except that the game doesn't refer to your race as dwarves. It's specifically made not to.
Embarking with modded Wild Dwarf civ:

I remember that tool. You had to be really careful with it, it crashed a lot. So, more text access would be nice, yes.

--edit
It does say "Dwarven history" though regardless of your race. So that should be fixed.
