Bio:
It is relatively quiet in Switzerland. The thirteen cantons of the Swiss Confederation remained neutral during the Thirty Years' War and became independent after the Peace of Westphalia, and while not all was initially well with peasant rebellions and tensions between the cantons, it has now been several decades since most open warfare.
In the rural canton of Glarus, the Wyss family have raised ravens for generations in secrecy, ravens large enough to ride, with keen eyes and silky iridescent coats. Information about them is carefully controlled (though not foolproof if rumors of a captive population of ravens being established at the Tower of London are to be believed) and all scouting expeditions are performed under cover of night to ward off potential sightings.
Regardless, this disquieting news to the east of a demon's castle could affect all of the cantons. It seemed only right to look into it, and if need be, have the results flown to the nobles and patrician families who should hear it.
Fifth out of six children and youngest of three daughters, Bärbel Wyss was sent to Istria to investigate this brewing storm. It was an unusual choice at first sight for a task that might be of much import. Particularly heedless in her curiosity, she was unlikely to adhere to her mission of only observing the events unfolding near Pazin without interference... and as might have been expected, it has now been several weeks without her return.
Perhaps this was her family's plan all along, as no more ravens have been dispatched after her as they would if she was considered lost or in peril. She might have gotten involved deeply in the situation, might be in over her head more than even her family would imagine. But at the very least, she will have enough time. Enough for a full and complete investigation.
