Making the dorfs happy & mincecarts!
« on: January 20, 2023, 05:46:27 am »

So, the problem that I always face is desire to obtain acquire object / be extravagant.
AFAIK you can designate 2 empty stockpiles of trinkets and junk and host a biannual haulfest.
Now, I'm really new to minecarts and how they work.
Can I add a minetrack between 2 stockpiles: will dwarves be able to grab items they like when they take it to the cart?
Any other happiness increasing suggestions are welcomed!

One method is to have two 1-tile stockpiles and one maybe 30-tile stockpile; not too far from the tavern and temples.

Allow one 1-tile stockpile to Accept from Anywhere and the others to Accept from Links Only; without bins; to accept finished goods of the type and quality you want the dwarfs to wear; maybe start with lower quality bone crafts. Set each stockpile to Take from one other stockpile, so they form a loop.

Once you are comfortable with the setup and can avoid over-producing that type of craft so the larger stockpile doesn't not completely fill up, then set up a monthly or seasonal order for a crafting jobs.

There is something to be said about, if the stakes are as high, maybe reconsider your certitudes. One has to be aggressively allistic to feel entitled to be able to trust. But it won't happen to me, my bit doesn't count etc etc... Just saying, after my recent experiences I couldn't trust the public if I wanted to. People got their risk assessment neurons rotten and replaced with game theory. Folks walk around like fat turkeys taunting the world to slaughter them.

I finally managed to do it this way:
1. Have a minecart full of magma.
2. Dig a channel
3. Put 2 tiles of track and a track stop (dumping stuff in the direction of the channel).
4. Set up a route (kick the cart in the direction of the channel, always at 0%)
5. Allocate a minecart with magma
6. Wait (hauling minecarts takes time)!
7. Get 2/7 magma!

No need to kick, just a stop dumping in the good direction (preferably the hole next to it but your millage might warry depending if you need magma or !!fun!!) and assigning the cart with magma in it is enough. Two stops /hole and you have enough (4) in one go.
