Cannot find merchants

In a dwarven town, is it supposed to be insanely difficult to find a merchant? And more importantly, the one time I did, when I try to trade I get the message : The merchant says "you should look for a merchant". Maybe I corrupted something?

You can only trade with humans in adventure mode right now.

That merchant is possibly from one of the caravans from a dwarf mode game.  It's an unfortunate choice of words.

yeah.  more specifically, you can only trade with human store owners while they are in their stores.  the caravan merchants are a different class of thing.
