Why are small animals so damned scary??
« on: January 05, 2023, 09:18:53 pm »

Can the game be tweaked in the raws so that dwarves wont be terrified of keas, ravens, little kakapo and such, so that dwarves wont panic and flee in terror from these 18-20 inch long birds??
I can understand fearing the giant ones, but these little ones that are cat sized? so frustrating >_>
(id like to avoid making them vermin if possible)

Have you ever seen Hitchcock's The Birds? They were small too.
Normal people when attacked by vicious, wild, possibly rabid furballs tend to try to get away. Use hunters to keep the plant gatherers safe.

Note: this is for Classic.  I don't know if it would work for Steam.

Try this: edit the file raw\objects\creature_standard.txt
The first entry is for [CREATURE:DWARF] .
Find the line [SPEECH:dwarf.txt] .
Above that line, insert this line:
    [NATURAL_SKILL:DISCIPLINE:3]

I am not sure if you can modify an existing game, but it is worth a try.
Edit the file data\save\region(n)\raw\objects\creature_standard.txt .

I suspect that new immigrants will have the modification, but existing units won't.  That's only a guess, though.

Mm.. built in Discipline is a good idea. For my starting dwarves I try to give them 2-3 pts worth where possible.. same with swimming.
