Steam: magma forges
« on: December 14, 2022, 07:35:00 pm »

How do I set up magma forges in the steam version?  In the old version there was a tile on the forge that required a channel underneath it, and magma on the level below that.  In steam version I can't tell if I need a channel beneath the forge, or where it should be.

Any of 8 edge tiles will work. And the tile with fire on the image is probably a good place, though I don't actually know if they still block the hole.

This sounds like a good question for FotF (and a possible suggestion depending on the answer)…

I will try to do some testing and see if magma crabs start entering the fort through the forge.

Pretty sure they're the same tiles from before, as listed on the wiki. Magma forge east and west tiles. Everything else north tile.

Like Ziusudra said, any of the edge tiles will work.  I can't remember exactly how magma forges used to work, except that blocking creatures from using the channel to get into the fortresss was definitely something that needed to be done.

I have been placing them under the visible fire, which seems to map to the old impassible tiles, and have had no problems so far.

They certainly do through the smelters, which cost one of my furnace operators their life. And, worse, cost the fort their socks. War dogs seemed to work at taking the crabs out.
