Asking here because I can't find anything on the wiki or through searches:
Steam V 50.03.

Just recently cracked open the first cavern layer and scouted around to see what was where. Saw a small patch of warm rock wall. Some digging revealed a two-tile pool of 3/7 & 4/7 magma surrounded by granite with some gems and a few obsidian. Nothing interesting underneath or otherwise connected. Is this just some weird world generation glitch or something that is known to happen? Isolated pocket or top end of something bigger? Happens to be almost directly under the embark wagon if that means anything.

I pumped it over into one channeled-out spot for my first and (so far) only magma smelter.

I just explored the first of these myself. An excellent addition to the game, imo. Bite-sized little encounters in the depths.

That's it! Thanks both of you. I'd seen those mentioned before, guess the lava and being embedded in the wall threw me. Looking around, there's 3-4 more out in the open but no warm stone. Sometime when I'm looking for something to do I'll dig into another.
