The increased publicity. The community may grow again, maybe even this forum will gain a ten-year increase to its lifespan.

Locomotives for pulling minecarts and steam wagons for regular overland travel.  Also, portable engines and maybe even steamships if Toady One was able to get them in…

Steamed plump helmets and veggies.

Interface stuff in general looks pretty cool! It'll be great to see info without digging too much. And I never would have said this a couple months back, but the ability to designate minecart tracks more easily will be pretty nice for some large-scale projects. Not totally sure I want to give up ASCII graphics though...

Speaking of which, hi! I figured I'd jump into the forums before the steam version was released. I've been playing for 8 years now--  I remember starting just before multi-tile trees were released.

You'll be able to switch to ASCII in the Steam version (not sure if it'll be there during launch though).

Also, the UI will be the same in Steam and Classic.

Work Order improvements
 - finally able to use vanilla instead of DFhack

Construction improvements
- I do lots of above ground constructions and this helps immensely in making that less painful

some Bin fixes
 - hopefully evading Bins like the plague not necessary anymore

Trade changes
- no more selling of junk and solving all problems through caravan makes me enjoy the game more without having to self-restrict myself all the time which is more relaxed play

Also yesterdays interview with Tarn/Blind makes me confident I see better FPS than in my earlier forts

Really interested in the new modding structure. Being able to add lines of code to existing entries without automatically becoming incompatible with any other mod that wants to use those? Yes please! Less modding conflicts means i can touch the vanilla raws more!
As well as all the general QOL changes. Not having to micromanage dwarves labors sounds great. The worldgen speed up! Orders worlds have more neat things in them. The idea of an agitation mechanic for savage critters. I like that one.

Honestly, just all of the changes are great from what I can tell. I couldn't really point out any that I dont think will be beneficial in the long run, even if it means having to relearn how to do things.

Honestly, I'm looking forward to the various fixes and adjustments the most. Not to say that the UI and graphics aren't appealing; I just want the game to clean up some of its loose ends. Plus improved modding support so that issues with the raws can be more easily worked around as well.

the amount of friends, once scared away by ASCII or tilesets, that I’ll finally be able to properly introduce to the game!

You didn't try tile sets?
Tried, people don’t like ‘em.

usually I turn the music off. Toady's guitar solo is a little too earwormy for me.
