Starting a fire!?
« on: May 05, 2022, 08:07:43 am »

How do I light my volcano mountain on fire?

I thought it was going to be easy... because of all of that lava.
I pumped up a healthy amount on the surface. No go. No uncontrolled cleansing fire.
Next I tried to skip minecarts on the lava and dropping stuff in to it in order to create lava mist but still no fire.

So, how do you go about starting a fire now?

Dig a channel filled with lava through an open field under some trees and try running a minecart through that. Sometimes lava flash burns vegetation immediately around it on the same z-level, leaving behind ashes that don't propagate further fires, but lava on the level below shouldn't pre-burn the grass, so maybe then the lava mist can ignite it.

Also double check you have temperature calculations enabled in d-init.txt in the data folder

Thanks, I used dfhack to start a few fires just to see if it was working but making the surface of the lava the same Z-level as the surrounding made it catch fire when skipping minecarts fairly reliable.

I abandoned my attempts to make multi-level mist form.
