Moody dwarf claimed "a decorating." What's going on?
« on: April 02, 2022, 06:53:51 pm »

One of my dwarves got a fey strange mood, and according to the announcements, claimed "a Decorating."
They immediately began work on the artifact, which is odd.

Why and how did they claim "a Decorating"? That's not a workshop and as far as I know not any kind of construction at all.
I've saved already in case this bug might crash when the artifact is actually produced, but I want to know what's going on. Has anyone else encountered this?

DF 0.47.05, no mods.

...It's been a while since I've actually been in any of the upper boards, ha.

Never seen this before.

Did you name a workshop (maybe one you planned to use only for decorating stuff)?

Did you 't' the workshop to view if there are items inside the workshop (usually the last TSK'd items in the workshop are what they are using for the construction)?

Welcome back to the upper caverns of this forum, haha!  :D

My best guess is that the workshop is named "Decorating" and has all the required materials already in it.  However, I cannot think of any workshop producing its own materials.  Zoom to the dwarf in question and see what is on their tile.

"t" should help you to see what they're actually using in the workshop, likely not many items. If the item they needed was very close nearby, it can sometimes feel like the dwarf started work immediately, but actually picked up a chunk of basalt right next to the workshop and got to work only a tick or two after the claim happened.

Thanks all, the "issue" was that I had named a jeweler workshop Decorating.

According to the wiki, sometimes a jeweler strange mood will require only one gem, producing an artifact "perfect gem", which explains why work on the artifact started immediately - there must have been a gem in the workshop already.

...it's a moot point now because a forgotten beast arrived, regardless.
