Ages and names
« on: February 06, 2008, 05:22:00 am »

I noticed just now while talking to a shop keeper that everyone in their family was over fifty years old.  It'd be cool if you could tell by looking at a person a rough approximation of their age.  At least for mortals.  Something like young, middle-aged, elderly, obviously made a deal with a demon to still be alive.  Well maybe you could come up with a shorter version of the last one.

Also, I noticed something just now though I suppose I should have sooner.  The same shopkeeper had two daughters, both with different last names than the shop keeper, each other, and their husbands.

Perhaps you aren't in Kansas anymore where your last name is your family name? Perhaps the second name is like a title describing your previous actions?

That might work if they didn't get last names at birth.

Last names used to be only descriptive names, and they weren't passed down. That's what's happening there. It makes you wonder what those people did to earn some of those names...

I wonder what HP Lovecraft's ancestors did...

His dad did have syphilis, after all.
