Another noob question
« on: April 03, 2008, 07:31:00 pm »

I've noticed there are a lot less people to recruit in my personal army in recent versions, where can i found a good amount of armed people ready to throw themselves at my enemies for my amusement?

you pretty much can't.  The only way is to make lots of adventurers and retire them in the same town and then go and recruit them.

That seems to be too much effort considering I'd probably die on my first quest anyways. is there any place in the data files that controls meatshield spawn?

Nope, it's controlled in the source, which in the current version says "don't bother making any".  Go back or forward some versions (IE go back to...anyone know what the most recent good version is?...or wait a couple more weeks.)

Bah, fine. I'll just have to hurl one adventurer after another at the tougher enemies.

A faster way is to get a fort running and train military, or make a new fort and give all your starting dwarves only military skills and instead of getting food, get weapons and armour.

OR the fastest way is to get a fort to hit HFS, then abandon, then reclaim, then abandon. That's like 90 free military dwarves of all professions right there who will wander the map.
