is there a way to know a town/hamlet civilization besides traveling there and see if citizens attack you on sight due to training on sleeping people/stray animals on starting location without using legends beforehand?

(l)ook at a citizen, then at the pouch in their inventory (scroll down, hit enter), then at the coins. Reading their description should tell you which civ minted them. The person holding them belongs to that civ.

Edit: Sorry, I mis-read your question. Without actually travelling there, I do not know if there is an easy way to check a town's civ.
