Butchery and tanning
« on: May 21, 2021, 07:25:04 pm »

I've got a setup with two butchery areas. ONe up near my pastures for butchery, with tannerys all around to do the hides, and another near my refuse pile, to chop up any bodies it can put to good use. Waste is undwarven.

Only problem is that my animals are being led to be slaughtered all the way down to my refuse butchers shop. I've fiddled around with workshop profiles and everything but nothing seems to work.

Is there any way to turn off live animal butchery at my refuse butchers shop? Thanks all.

Take a look at the 'o' 'W' menu items. You are using those standing orders to 's'laughter animals, 'b'utcher corpses, and 't'an hides. This automated order system pre-dates the "workshop manager" system and is completely separate from the workshop manager and cannot be controlled by it. It just adds the order to the newest non-forbidden workshop, meaning those standing order jobs will always be added to the same workshop (this is what you are seeing in your fort).

The "butcher corpse" job is available in the workshop manager system, so you could try to use "workshop manager" for butchering and "standing orders" for slaughtering (rebuild your "slaughter" workshop so it becomes the most recently built butcher workshop and set its workshop profile to disallow General work orders, then add a workshop manager order to "butcher an animal (1)" and add a job 'c'ondition for 'r'egeant and set the 'n'umber 'at least' 1). But, it probably will create a lot of job cancellation spam even it if works some of the time.

But it won't happen to me, my bit doesn't count etc etc... Just saying, after my recent experiences I couldn't trust the public if I wanted to. People got their risk assessment neurons rotten and replaced with game theory. Folks walk around like fat turkeys taunting the world to slaughter them.

Try using the burrow system, by making a burrow that covers the pen and outside butchery.

Do you know that this works? If you haven't verified that it does, it might be that the old system doesn't respect workshop burrows either. If it does work, however, a workshop burrow covering the refuse stockpile and the refuse butchery might work as well.

Personally I just use a single butchery (and try to order butchering such that all the results have been hauled away before a new batch of animals is designated for slaughter, as the morons prefer to haul away the resulting refuse before hauling away the perishable food).

Rebuilding the preferred butchers shop didn't change things. They seem to simply go to the nearest shop. Might need to reorganise somehow, or add more tanners. Thank you for the answers, I will try a workaround.
