The time it takes to do a mission
« on: March 05, 2021, 12:37:14 pm »

I've sent my dwarves on the second mission. its 5 days travel. the first one (raid) took long but this time (raze) it takes forever.
I'm pretty sure I don't have any dogs that stayed back.

What is the "right" time a day of travel is for a mission? Is it 10 days of travel + x days of mission for a target that is 5 days away?
What other reasons could there be for mission taking forever?
Is there a different time for different mission types?

Thanks  8)

Artifact recovery missions can take a very long time if the artifact isn't in the expected location, with dorfs supposedly able to go on year long bar hopping sessions in their hunt for rumors.

Conquests leave the conquerors at the conquered site and you'd have to send a messenger to request anyone to return (and my limited experience indicates you're lucky if you get two soldiers back from a full squad that suffered no casualties).

Also note that the squad will travel as a group, and won't start until the slowpoke that decides to pray, eat, sleep, and replace half the equipment one piece at a time has left the embark.

I also think that if your whole team was killed or captured it will take some time before a rumor of the event returns.

Apart from that, I think it's basically the time to travel there and back again, with the actual fight (if there is one) taking essentially (or possibly actually) no time at all.

Some research has been made according to the suggested above and:
1) Checked all soldiers by name (20) - no one is in the fort. In addition it says that the units are traveling
So the can be all dead... but I'll have to wait and see
2) Is there a way 2 missions could be done at the same time? Right now it appears I HAVE to wait and see because I'm unable to go on another mission...

You can have several groups out on missions at the same time, yes. You have to use different squads, of course.

I checked that all war animals are not in a pasture, I've sent another mission to the same place for the same reason and now they both didn't come back.
Any ideas?

Thanks
