Now that my fortress is boned...
« on: January 07, 2007, 02:17:00 am »

Okay so my first fortress is pretty much done in I'm just wondering the exact method of starting over? Is there an abandond fortress option or do I just start a new world and the game will take care of the rest?

Hit space to pause, then escape to get the options menu. On it will be an option to abandon the fortress. It will take a bit to offload stuff, but then it will take you to the beginning menu, and you'll be able to start a new fortress.

Damnit well now then it has finally happened.  I messed up with the floodgate and it flooded the whole thing.... The entire region... oh me.

It happens.  Be paranoid about dealing with water, or the whole world could be drowned.

yeah.. The map flooded so I aboandoned and after 4 attempts all of which ended in the game freezing I gave up the idea of trying to retake the fortress. (I hoped it dried out) Alas I have to move on. Now I'm on my second fort and I hope I worked out something funcional..
code:

#######
F    #
##### #
#LL # #
#L  # #
##F## ########
#            #
F            #
#            #
##############

F=Floodgate
L=Lever

its a rough approximation of what the chamber looks like Its basically an experiment in plumbing.

Hopefully your picture is an over-simplified version of what you're really planning, because I think you're going to have issues trying to to mechanize the floodgate that blocks the way into the lever room.

Once the floodgate is put in, you can't get to the lever to connect it to the floodgate to open the open floodgate to connect it to the lever to open the floodgate... ad nauseum...   ;)

Don't waste your wood in anything you can build out of... anything else... Wood is precious =p

This is the easiest setting for farming, I think, not that it will do much else.

code:

 # #
### #
#L+ #
###+####     ~~~
#      #     ~~~
#      #     ~~~
#      #     ~~~
#      X_____~~~
#      #     ~~~
#      #     ~~~
########     ~~~

Keep the door to the lever locked until you need to use the lever (gremlins, tantrum, whatever) and lock the door to the farmplot before pulling the lever. I usually build a seed storage nearby and, well, my farms are a lot bigger than that.
