Notes:

Splitting critical and system damage way too easy to confuse (especially during math time),
Critical damage too wild at higher damage weapons.

Conclusion: Make crits damage subsystems instead?

making crits damage subsystems directly is likely to make damage spirals way worse in all honesty.

Yes, but with double damage gone you would have much more time to respond to the subsystem damages. It would theoretically make it a bit harder to crunch ship armor, too.
