Question in the title. It's funny because I just set up some beautiful magma forges so I wasn't gonna need to cut down many trees, then I offered a barrel full of fish when I wasn't paying attention. Do my relations with the elves go straight to war now or will I have to do more to piss off the knife ears.

Yeah, you're probably at war. You can check in an option off the missions screen. I think it's c, and then c again.

Well the elves brought crap pets anyways. Maybe I'll biuld a minecart shotgun to use up all this lead I've got because Galena is the only ore I've found.

YOU HAVE OFFENDED THE FARCE THAT PERMEATES THE LAND!!!!!!!!1111!!!!!!1111111111111111111111111111

You have only one choice.

You must show to the force how much you love the trees.

You must do this by creating a dwarf/tree hybrid! (see note)

Only then can you be sa...v....  What was it again?

Note:

This is easier said than done.  The elves have been attempting something similar for ages and not yet have they had success!

You're probably not at war. It usually takes a fair bit of effort to goad elves into attacking, as far as I understand, with some players failing despite trying everything they can to offend the elves.

It is safest to presume that they will attack, along with war beasts. So, suspend wood-hauling and plant-gathering by late winter, and maybe create a few kitten-scout towers.

There is something to be said about, if the stakes are as high, maybe reconsider your certitudes. One has to be aggressively allistic to feel entitled to be able to trust. But it won't happen to me, my bit doesn't count etc etc... Just saying, after my recent experiences I couldn't trust the public if I wanted to. People got their risk assessment neurons rotten and replaced with game theory. Folks walk around like fat turkeys taunting the world to slaughter them.

If you offend them on their very first visit, then they very well might attack you next year.

If, on the other hand, you've been trading with them for many years, a single slip-up is unlikely to start a war - the Elves may be unreasonable, but they're not that unreasonable.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

I recommend an immediate pre-emptive strike. It's the only way to be sure.
