Megabeasts not showing up
« on: August 19, 2020, 05:44:33 pm »

I'm playing in a pocket size world with an extinct civilization. It's not dying, it's truly extinct: no migrants, no caravans, no monarch.

The world has 5 hydras and 5 rocs, which I'm eager to capture, breed and unleash in the underworld just for the heck of it. However, after 26 years not a single one showed up, despite all the forgotten beasts having already attacked (and most got captured by webbed cage traps).

I use "gui/gm-editor df.global.timed_events" at the beggining of every season, and very often I see a scheduled megabeast attack, but they never show up. I edited the raws to set the population trigger for hydras to attack to 1, but even then I believe only one trigger is necessary, and I definitely have enough produced wealth.

Is it related to my civ being dead? In this case, what differs the megabeasts from the forgotten beasts?

I was out in the rain. So exasperating!

I'm not aware of anything special regarding megabeast attacks against truly dead civs. However, my experience is that megabeasts aren't particularly frequent movers, but rather tend to sit in their lairs rather than attacking my fortress (that said, my latest fortress has about a dozen rocs and a dragon, collected over almost 50 years, and that's in a world that has a high number of megabeasts).
That civ is truly dead, by the way.
