Beatings
« on: August 11, 2020, 10:58:32 pm »

I have open prison chains, but my captain of the guard keeps giving beatings instead of chaining people for theft. He was chaining people, but he hasn't the last few times. Does any one know why that might be? I want to cage those damn villainous thieves so I can take my shit back from them.

Are all your chains designated to be used by the justice system?

Yup, I've had a lot of people chained up in there over the ten years of the fort. But randomly a year or two ago he just stopped. Can dwarves "choose" which punishment to administer based on their traits or something? Could he have changed his values though a life experience, making him more likely to administer beatings?

You could experiment with this pretty easily, if you have an open case. Just save the game, convict someone, and see how they're punished. Then run it a couple of times to see if the punishment is random. Then change the CoTG and see if that makes a difference.

Whats a CoTG? I don't know if I care enough to go through all that, it takes forever for my game to save and load. I appreciate the suggestion though. I have no crime aside from artifact theft, so I'm just going to try to lock my artifacts away.

CoTG is Captain of the Guard. He's the one who does interrogations. Maybe he plays a role in deciding the punishment. I dunno.

Oh I see, I though you were talking about some DFhack thing to change traits, that makes sense. Hopefully I can lock all my stuff away and it wont be a problem.
