« on: March 16, 2020, 04:48:18 pm »

What should i put on my museum that will give dwarves happy thoughts? I wanna do everything i can (other than mist generators due to FPS drop) to make them happy.

Statues, beakdogs in cages, masterwork figurines on pedestals is a good start.

Can't creatures generate bad thoughts? or just vermin?

I think just vermin. Never seen a dwarf who really detests beakdogs. But some will love them for their chatters and clicks.

Regular creatures don't cause bad thoughts.  Vermin do.  In rare cases a dwarf might like a specific type of vermin.

I wouldn't put buildable furniture on a pedestal.

Ha, no. Furniture can just go in the museum as it is. Dorfs seem to like it.

Pedestals can be loaded up with an infinite amount of items and display them all, or at least in my experience I haven't hit a cap. Therefore, someone could load up a pedestal with 1 of each item type and 1 of each material type and generate happy thoughts, probably multiple times in each dwarf with one viewing. Testing required. Sidenote, putting artifacts on pedestals seems to make them impossible to steal, which is nice with so many schemers out there.

No, artifacts on pedestals are most definitely not impossible to steal. That would kind of defy the point of Toady adding pedestals to display artifacts on and villains to steal them.

I've had many an artifact heist from my display pedestals.

It's a museum. I might out a crown that a favorite dwarf wore before getting killed by a forgotten beast or I might remove a door and place it on display there if it held back undead at a critical moment. Museums are for me as much as they are for the dwarves.
