You'd be hardpressed to stop dwarves from drinking your industry.

The website is pretty general, so it doesn't double check its own statements. I once got something that was like: no digging, build a fortress in the circus...

Looked at that site and it generated (no booze, trade food only and booze industry only... Not sure if it could be done)
https://scenariogenerator.net/generators/dwarf-fortress/scenario/4a11a24c-d156-424a-b6b1-0a0743647ac3

1) Only grow brewable crops and build multiple Stills.
2) Never use the stills, just sell the crops as is to caravans.
3) No other industries.
4) Certain death.

Desert fort is much less challenging than what you'd expect a desert settlement to be, mostly due to dwarves not needing water for brewing, and agriculture being fairly easy even in a desert. You have less wood to chop, and that's about it.

I still like embarking in deserts and the badlands biomes, mostly because of aesthetics, flatness of terrain, and the creatures that you can find in there. RIP giant desert scorpion, we eagerly await your return.

I think the rarity of sieges in general means threat level is rather low. Still. Forgotten beasts and titans are a thing. Good luck with your fortress !

I'll try to post some more soon.

Well, uh, seems 47.04 doesn't agree with my save files. Despite taking the standard actions to transfer saves between versions, I got on today to find all my saves gone.

Well, here it is, a new fort challenge has been rolled

Huh, this ought to be interesting, I've never really played around with aboveground forts, and a 1x1 embark should make things pretty cramped, at least the biome's kinda normal and joyous wilds should make things easier.

Gonna need a lot of masons and miners. Tower fort isn't hard, in fact, it solves cave adaption pretty well and I often build at least part of it outside. It's just hassle and gets repetitive after a while.

Though 10x10 tiles... man. I often do things like restrict the fortress itself in an area, but this seems excessively small.

Are you allowed to dig out your fort under the tower itself too ?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Found a spot, naturally it's cold and frozen, not a lot of trees.

Guess I'll explain my interpretations of the rules, naturally, my fort must be a tower, above ground, to me, this means I can still dig underground for stone/gems/metal but I can't build anything there.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Here's what I'm bringing, as a side note, I've never, up until now, embarked in cold areas....it's fairly obvious if you look at what I brought for embarking, mostly egg layers, 3 picks and underground seeds...

Here was my skill setup.

3 Miners
A craftsdwarf
An manger/bookkeeper Dwarf
A grower/building designers
A appraiser that could double as fisherdwarf
Notice that I don't have any masons....

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Welcome to FrozenTower! Immediately I notice how absolutely SMALL it is, I mean, I knew it was 1x1 but I was not ready.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

For reference, here's the resolution I ended up playing with.

I also noticed real quick that the area was not completely frozen, had trees, and could also be plowed for plants.

If you couldn't tell I'm really beating myself over how horrible I planned for this.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

You can see two things here, one, I'm building a farm, even though I don't have any outdoor seeds yet, it's better to be ready. And two, I just realized that my only building material is the wood I brought to be used for beds, if I don't want to burn through my wood supply, I need to start digging, and fast.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I started channeling to find stone, and as I haven't messed around with that, I don't really know what I'm doing, also some horses showed up.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I'm fairly certain that this area didn't have an aquifer....this could be bad

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Oh yeah...that's bad, that's real bad, I have no idea how to deal with aquifers, and no idea whether this a heavy or light one.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Not sure when this happened, but it's really not a good sign, it looks like channeling leads to cave ins a bit too much for my taste.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

That's another channel, trying to find out exactly where this aquifer is...I'm starting to think that pits that go straight down don't have slopes in them. I think I'll build some stairs over it.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH.

Well, not much has happened, but my inexperience is clearly showing itself, hands up, who think this fort will be dead by winter?
