I have been trying unsuccessfully to search for the answer to the topic.

I think the answer is "yes".  Not done a lot of research myself, but everything I've seen implies that since world activation was initiated invaders deplete their population when they siege you.  Eventually they run out and stop sending sieges.

It was quite visible when all sieges were sent from a single site: The population dwindled until they lost the ability to send any more sieges. In my longest lived fortress they were able to recover sufficiently to send two more sieges after about 50 years of recovering, which was rather anti-climactic, as the fairly small sieges consisted of raw recruits.
Now it's probably a bit harder to see, as the site from which a siege is sent is randomly selected from the ones eligible, but you still ought to be able to follow it e.g. by yearly Legends Mode exports and compare the siege staging sites before and after sieges.

Repeated raids on sites definitely reduce the population, at least at sites in the 100 pop range, where you can whittle the numbers down, but that's reducing numbers from attacks in the other direction.

Thanks! I figured it was kind of hard to tell which site the raids were coming from without close research on the legends, but I'll take your word that it's the case. Just curious about things, I don't think I'm going to wait for them to kill themselves off, but good to know.
