Miner stuck standing next to bucket
« on: August 04, 2019, 03:49:32 pm »

Noticed one my miners keeps doing nothing and will stay stuck next to his bucket. He's set to hauling and mining, but refuses to do any of that. He does respond to a burrow call and will retreat with his wooden companion, but then just freezes up if the alert is cancelled. Not sure what to do with them. He's also very drowsy despite being steps from a range of beds. Mousing the bucket says there's 2 of them.

I've seen very drowsy happen when the dwarf is assigned to a burrow they can't reach (with their bed inside that burrow iirc). It can also happen when a mother can't get their baby, but you'd normally get cancellation spam over that unless you've disabled that under 'o'rders.

Either one would explain the behaviour you're seeing.

Does he have a pick to mine with?
What job is he listed as having when you 'v' 'g' him?
Is that tile part of a location or meeting zone?

Maybe it has nothing to do with the buckets...

I've done that before by having them mine somewhere they can't get back out of, or they get walled in because they took the last mine tile job 6 months after I started closing an area off.

Did you have any encounters whit forgotten beasts, or perhaps embarked in an evil biome. The drowsiness could be from contamination and he might be trying to clean himself.

Had one forgotten beast, might've been a poisonous biter so I'm guess I should make a hospital and soap?

They're positioned above the burrow and they start running into it properly when activated

Not military alert burrow, regular burrow assignment.

It may be that you're encountering bug 1735, though I haven't seen it myself.

In that case, making a burrow that covers the whole map and assigning your miner to it should work as workaround.

Checked him and now a few other dwarves are doing it, they all say no jobs and all have buckets

What is in the last 50 or 100 lines of your gamelog.txt? Maybe you turned off something in announcements.txt that would explain what they are trying to do with these buckets.

Hm. I've seen this when icecasting: if you have a pond zone that has no pondable tiles (remaining), it'll still result in jobs being grabbed and then cancelled.

But I don't think it should be higher priority than sleeping. Albeit I've yet to try it.
