Dwarves Socialize Via Art
« on: April 15, 2019, 05:56:19 pm »

Artists should be able to make artwork that argues for/against values in accordance with their own values, and other dwarves should be able to form an opinion (relationship) on the artist based off of the art; moreover, art should basically have all the effects of the "debate values" conversation option in adventure mode, i.e. possible changing the viewers values, and changing the viewer's opinion of the artist (speaker).
This could also extend into song, poetry, dance, and books/scrolls, providing a far more concrete, varied, and visible political scene in the world.

Books already have values which can sway people to the author's way of thinking. Both in fortress and in the outside world.

But forming a relationship with the artist (using the new values of trust, respect, fear, etc) without having to ever meet them would be a good addition. Imagine your favourite artist suddenly turned up in person, you wouldn't turn down the chance to make him happy by, say, pulling that lever over there, after a lifetime of happy thoughts and respect for their paintings, would you?  ::)

Oooh, I like it!

Quote
This is an exceptionally crafted statue of plump helmets by Urist McArtist. The statue relates to the brutality of war and is meant to indicate how we should all, like, just get along, man.

Urist McArtLover has been happy lately. He saw a controversial statue of plump helmets that caused him to rethink his values, making him have less respect for martial prowess.

Of course, a poorly made piece could even backfire... :D

ETA: Ooh! There could even be attempts by either the player or nobles to censor some ideas in art and/or promote others! Maybe the mayor commissions 5 statues that promote cracking eggs at the little end, while meanwhile, Urist McArtist is hauled away to jail for his piece that promotes trees!

Yes. Totally +1 for Your suggestion. Maybe at Times creative Minds reinterpret a Work and come to other ideas than the one conveyed in the piece of Art.
