Engraving Caverns
« on: November 02, 2018, 10:57:04 pm »

I'm maximizing wealth, so I'm engraving an entire cavern. But the cavern floor is covered in moss and so can't be smoothed. What's the fastest way to make the cavern floor smooth-able and engrave-able?

Fastest would probably be channeling and engraving the level below.

I think building and removing roads might be a better solution, however. Nevermind, the floors are clay. Looks like channeling is the only option.

If the cavern floor is stone (rather than "soil" of some kind), magma seems to be a way to burn away moss and thus reveal the floor.  I've only made small experiments with it, though. Cutting down trees often leaves an exposed tile of rock, but it would take an eternity for every tile to have had a tree on it.
Flooring/paving has a significant chance/risk of transmuting the rock into "soil".

I suspect that if you have any silty clay loam in a cavern z-level, you will have a lot of it, and will need to do something to create the rock floor (magma+water+dig?). I had a 7x7 pasture area in the caverns that was already sparse, with some exposed 'diorite' and 'silty clay loam' tiles, and added more grazers. They found more diorite and more silty clay loam.

There is something to be said about, if the stakes are as high, maybe reconsider your certitudes. One has to be aggressively allistic to feel entitled to be able to trust. But it won't happen to me, my bit doesn't count etc etc... Just saying, after my recent experiences I couldn't trust the public if I wanted to. People got their risk assessment neurons rotten and replaced with game theory. Folks walk around like fat turkeys taunting the world to slaughter them.
