Duke Riskov observed the proceedings from his own tent, erected not too far from the royal pavilion. All of his retinues were present, knights and freemen both, and all paid from royal coffer for the participation. This war business was not a bad idea, as long as the enemies were suitably chosen, thought the duke.

A message was sent to Grandmaster, summoning him to the duke for a conversation - as the King was leaving the capital behind, Duke Alexei was placed to act as an administrator and needed a field commander.

Weeks before the Wedding

Yshuis

Finding an accomplished architect was not really a problem. Finding one familiar with fortification construction more so. In the end The Duke of Yshuis was referred to a gentleman by the Queen. The man himself was anything but confidence inspiring, appearing in Kouhald dead drunk, shuffling along on crutches, escorted by two Queensmen who seemed to have pissed off the Queen personally, Rainald seemed to be for better or worse the man to build the defenses for Northern Argas...

Arg Cais Underbelly

"No mistakes have been made Count Redpaw. To gain the forbidden knowledge of the Velvet Society one has to be educated in pleasure...and pain in equal measure."

The men and women move towards you. You definetly won't get out of this by words alone.

Arg Cais more reputable areas

The Basilica of the Knights Raven has existed centuries before the order itself. And while it has been a place of martial rather than theological, magical or scientific education, it still contained a modest if well kept archive. Unfortunately magic is and always will be a shunned and rare thing anywhere between Far Moss and the Widowed Lands. However you find a tome made by a scholar from the days before the Widowing: Dragon Iconography. Once you penetrated past the ancient dialect, it is still unfathomably hard to understand but you think what you hold in your hands is a tome created by the Dragon Cultists so recently forbidden by the King. This book will require considerable study and you are unsure if it will reveal anything on ancient magics.

For now you have stored it away and continue your quest for magical power in the royal library. The royal library of Arg Cais is not much larger than the archives of the Basilica but just as well kept. After haranguing an old man, who apparently lives in the place in exchange for keeping it clean and maintained, you finally get to sort through its contents. All you find however is a book about the reclusive Dwarves: Dwarven Magicks - A guide to dwarven inventions and curiosities.

Laranth had little time for drunkards, yet the soon-to-be-queen's recommendation had to be worth something. Reluctantly, he gave the man 9000kr to start work on the repair of Yshuis's fortifications, as well as the construction of a new border fort. Count Horace was asked to watch over the construction efforts, as well as the defence of Yshuis more generally, whilst Laranth mustered his levies along with Yshuis's other two Counts to march south.

At an opportune time, Laranth presented himself before the king and queen.

"My liege, for the coming campaign, I offer my axe, and those of my followers. I bring a dozen knights, fifty men-at-arms, and five-hundred foot."

A 'respectable' ways away from the noble camps, nestled up against the River Argr, the Red Company makes camp. Its scarlet banner flies over the head of Athewald's hard bitten mercenaries as they go over maps of the Wold, gamble, talk and otherwise rest up before long campaign. Athewald himself wishes he was stewing in his tent, instead he is inside Cairnfurt proper, informing the king that he and his men are ready to march. Of course, propriety means that he will be last to speak and more than likely shut out from the main strategic talk, points which only furthers his poor mood.

"The Red Company stands to march, your Majesty. 100 men at arms, including myself, stand ready to storm whatever faces us in the Wold."

"If that is the case I would prefer to wait for some time until I learn, but I am willing to pay you now an advance payment, are you willing to negotiate on it upstairs?"

Damnit people, this is why I said to keep the truce. Because now everyone's ganging up on the cats.

"The Price, dear count, is service to the society. Something which cannot be paid in advance."

Luckily you brought along a hidden shortsword and you are wearing a chainshirt below your clothing, because it does not seem like you can simply walk away from this. On the other hand you might not want to, who knows what powers the Velvet Society possesses?

"I can't allow myself to serve a group I don't know nothing about, so I would prefer you tell me about it or let me leave at once,I I swear that I won't inform anyone on this place if you let me go now, and I would like to remind you that people will look for me and there are people who knows about me being here,"
Get my hand closer to the hilt, not taking it yet, be ready to fight if needed
