how do i set population cap

hello i have been playing dwarf fortress for a while now but when my fort doesnt die with normal means it dies because of fps death i was able to avoid that but i would still love to set population cap ps im using df hack.

Make the change in d_init.txt.  If you're using the LNP, there is an option right on the front panel that will make this change for you.
