Author Topic: DF Structure investigation: bug tracker save with (non buggy) dance&music wanted  (Read 757 times)

I'm trying to tease out the meaning of the data for performances in DF, but the saves I look at are filled with poetry reciting and an occasional smattering of story telling, but not much in the way of music or dancing, which makes it rather hard to get data to figure out how multi party performances are organized, as well as who did what (sang, simulated an instrument, ...).

Thus, I'm asking if someone knows of a bug tracker save, posted for other reasons, that does have a fair bit of those activities going on. I'd prefer to have such activities happening, as DFHacking makes it possible to get DF to reveal additional info on the thoughts screen by making it the primary one, i.e. the one that's described on the first line, such as "I saw a dwarf tell the story of the impersonation of the human Athel Councilrought by the human Istro Worthybutters  before The Room Of Deciding in the late summer of 196 at the Mushrooms of Mortification. ...", which contains way more info that just being told the the dorf had watched an interesting performance (which doesn't even say it was a story).

Well, I do have a save with people singing, and I'm uploading it right now to DFFD. Will include the link when it's done.

EDIT: The save: http://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=13860

Thanks GenericUser, that was useful as a basis for teasing out a bit about how music is handled.

Edit: In case someone is actually interested in the results, they're listed in a DFHack structures issue thread https://github.com/DFHack/df-structures/issues/284, although the thread is assuming the reader is quite familiar with DF structures.

Do you still need dances?
I get quite a few of these, but haven't had to upload a 44.11 save with a tavern going on yet.

If you think it's a waste of space on DFFD, I'll send you a save some other way. Otherwise wait a bit and I'll probably find a bug to upload.

Thanks Shonai_Dweller.

Yes, I've gotten a fair bit out of GenericUser's save regarding music with simulated instruments and dwarven voices, but still need played instruments to try to get a handle on how simulated/played is represented.
I haven't got anything on dances, so that would definitely be useful. GenericUser's save showed the value of a save where the performance can be viewed as it happens, either in progress during the save or happening frequently enough that it can be expected to occur if you just wait a little. An important part is that at least some participant needs to be a citizen so the thoughts can be viewed.

I'm not sure what DFFD's policy regarding uploaded saves is, which is why I've asked for bycatch saves, but I don't have a personal objection against non bug saves uploaded. This investigation is not time critical, though, as I doubt there's an amazing plugin/script just waiting to be written as soon as the data has been teased out...
